Some new work

Uncategorized

Lots of hard work has finally been paying off and it’s incredible! Starting at the beginning of 2018 I’ve been asked to do a lot more illustration which is something that I had been wanting to happen and each job shows more people what I can do. I’ve always preferred drawing and illustration to design so I’ve been trying to step back from mostly designing comedy posters which had been burning me out to due to low rates and lots of work, much of it last minute with way too many changes for the price being charged. So far this year I’ve already designed a book cover, done the art for a food packaging label, designed a CD cover, drawn art for a comedy concert tour poster, designed my first gig poster for a music show in many years, created more logos, and also of course I’ve still managed to do a few more comedy show posters! I’m getting a lot better at asking for a price that is fair to me and my time and even saying no to jobs I felt weren’t a good match between me and the client or the job and my skill set. I have a lot of big jobs in the works which I hope will create more and bigger opportunities. Here is a selection of my recent stuff:

Vector mastery

Blog, Design

I realized one of my professional weak spots has been not being as well-versed with Adobe Illustrator as I’d like- especially for someone who loves illustration. I’ve always liked working with pixels in Photoshop over vectors but, as Illustrator has become more than just drawing with the pen tool and adjusting bezier curves with handles, I’ve realized I should be using Illustrator for a lot more of my illustrations because of the scalability of vectors. So here is a recent logo I made:

Adding websites to the resume

Uncategorized

I have a lot of friends in stand up comedy. Stand up comedians need websites when sending their “avails” to bookers but often don’t have money to spend on them. Recently I was asked by a friend if I could do a website for them. I had been reluctant to try designing a website because I really love illustration and making graphics and prefer to specialize, but I’ve seen so many friends pay way too much money for sites that were poorly designed so I decided to take a shot at it. I’m happy the client was pleased with the end result and the cost.
